Web seminar Ambulatory Reflux Studies (pH/Z)

Speakers

Dr. Sudip K. Ghosh
, PhD is Research Assistant Professor at the Division of Digestive Diseases at the University of Cincinnati and Director of the Gastrointestinal Motility Laboratory at the University Hospital.

Dr. Amine Hila is a Clinical Assistant Professor with Upstate Medical School, SUNY at their Binghamton clinical campus and staff gastro-enterologist at United Health Services Hospitals.

Goal

After the completion of this training module, participants shall be able to:

  • Understand and explain the fundamental physical principles of pH-impedance based monitoring devices
  • Understand the indications for pH-impedance testing
  • Understand when studies should be performed on versus off proton pump inhibitors
  • Identify protocols to be followed in calibrating the pH-impedance probe and in setting up a study
  • Analyze clinical 24-hr pH-impedance studies
  • Understand the advantages and disadvantages of symptom-reflux correlation

Highlights

The highlights of this training module are:

  • A thorough background of the clinical need for 24-hr pH-impedance monitoring shall be discussed
  • Uncommon referral sources, including ENT and cardiology referrals, shall be discussed
  • Several examples of acidic, weakly acidic and non-acid reflux, consistent with the Montreal definition, will be described and their clinical relevance shall be discussed
  • A clinical study shall be analyzed to describe the important features of the analysis software
  • The importance of properly interpreting the symptom-reflux relationship shall be discussed and examples provided
  • New methods of data visualization, like color contour plots of impedance, shall be discussed

Target audience

Physicians, Nurses, Nurse practitioners, Physicians assistants and other health care professionals.
